Born To Be Free. Not To Perform
The new campaign for the Born Free Foundation aims to highlight the problems of keeping Orcas in captivity, and forcing them to perform.
Launching on World Whale day this poster campaign aims to appeal to people worldwide, bringing the facts to their attention and encouraging them to challenge their opinions of keeping whales, dolphins, and porpoises in sanctuaries. Visiting sanctuaries with captive whales and dolphins has long been a popular holiday activity, but many people are unaware that keeping these cetaceans in captivity is severely detrimental to their welfare.
The campaign ran on some of Ocean Outdoor’s prime Westfield sites across the weekend of World Whale Day, achieving 130,000 impacts. A further 250,000 people have engaged with the ad on social media. Over 9,000 people signed the pledge on Born Free’s campaign page, to boycott travel companies that promote captive orca shows.
